I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit South Korea, and let me tell you – it absolutely blew me away. It’s a destination that often flies under the radar for Aussie travellers, but honestly, it shouldn’t. If you’re into cities bursting with culture, stunning nature, and a safe, clean environment, South Korea is a must.
Seoul was my starting point, and it completely captivated me. It’s such a modern city – think high-speed trains, futuristic skyscrapers, and some of the world’s best tech. But around every corner, there’s a beautiful reminder of Korea’s rich history. I wandered through centuries-old palaces like Gyeongbokgung, explored traditional hanok villages, and soaked in the heritage that’s still very much alive. It’s a perfect blend of old and new – something you don’t come across every day.
One thing that stood out straight away was how clean and safe everything felt. The public transport system is brilliant – reliable, spotless and easy to navigate, even if you don’t speak the language. I always felt comfortable walking around, even late at night. Whether I was exploring busy markets or quiet backstreets, the vibe was always welcoming and relaxed.
If you're the type who likes to get out and about (like me), South Korea is a dream. There’s so much to do – hiking up misty mountains, cycling along rivers, or simply exploring neighbourhoods on foot. I loved how active the locals are too – it’s a really energising atmosphere.
While the cities are amazing, it’s the natural beauty that truly surprised me. From the volcanic wonders of Jeju Island to the serene walking trails in the national parks, there’s so much untouched beauty. One of my favourite moments was hiking through a forest just outside Seoul and finding a hidden temple – completely peaceful, with birdsong and the smell of pine all around. Pure magic.
Every day brought a new cultural experience – tea ceremonies, traditional dance, even trying on a hanbok. The locals are so proud of their heritage and genuinely love sharing it with visitors. The warmth and hospitality I experienced really made the trip special.
South Korea ticked every box for me – it’s modern, it’s historical, it’s vibrant, it’s calm. Whether you’re an adventurer, a culture buff, a foodie, or just looking for a fresh new place to explore, South Korea delivers. I can’t wait to help more travellers discover this gem of a destination. If you like to find out more, contact us on travel@suncentretravel.com.au.
